23.06.2010

We had an after class discussion today about the making of our products.

We tried to continue progreesing our products using more materials.

First of all,
we remove all the screws from the cassettes to take out the black piece of plastic so that we can see the lights more clearer through the spaces of cassetes.

Then, we try to stick the tape onto its shelf.

Next, we use our tools to smoothen the surface of the cassettes so that it's easier to stick the cassettes together.

We used super glue to stick the cassettes accordingly to a square shape.

And last but not least we drafted out our shape.

Finally, the shape of our product is crafted.

End of discussion of the day :)

16.06.2010

Today all of our groupmates have discussed about the idea of our product and we had start trying processing our green product.
The resources we used are cassettes, super glue, fishing strings, etc.

Our groupmates:  Joey, bee yee, pek yee, gaik poh and wing yi.

We are tying to figure out the shape of the lamp we are making. We tried sticking the cassettes together using super glue but it didn't turn out well so we have decided to use fishing strings to tie them together.

End of discussions for the day :)

Finding resources.

After we came out with the idea of making decorative lamps as our green product, without any hesitation our groupmates start finding resources for our product.
We went to look for light bulbs in the first place as light bulb will be our main component of our lamp.
Bee yee's monologue: 'Why there are so many types of light bulbs? Which one should I choose?'

We have to choose energy saving light bulbs as well as plugs to connect our light bulb to the power supply.

That's all for our day of finding resources. We had a happy outings as our groupmates work in a team to find out the inportant resources that are useful for our product.
Teamwork and co-operation is seen through this outings and it is considered as a day of success as we found resources we want.
Stay tuned!

Idea!

After a long way of discussion, our groupmates finally come to a basic understanding that we will use decorative lamps as our product.
We decided to use cassettes as our recycled products to make decorative lamps to suit the taste and preferences of people in Egypt as they are very concerned about their modern daily lifestyle to live innovatively.

Cassette tapes live long before the 2000 age and was abandoned due to the revolution of the modern technology as cd's, ipods and mp3's has taken its place to deliver tones of music to everyone's earlobe.
Today, we reborn this bunch of old school tapes in the form of funky lamps.
The lamps we made look absolutely lit up. with the heart of the cassette exposed to give extra design feature and dimension to attract a wide market of customers in Egypt.
We used this Retro Vintage Lamp as a recycled design to a sustainable design.

Compared to the Egyptian style lamps which use brass light, we tend to use a deemer light which is more energy saving that suits the aim 'Go Green' for our group assignment.

Here's some examples for the Egyptian lamps.
Egyptian brass.

Egypts like unique and decorative lamps.

Outgoing for our product.

This day we went to visit Parkson to come out with an idea of what we are going to do on our product.
Our group members went to Subang parade to check on the operational of the departments and the products selling at the store.
We are focusing on the modern lifestyle of Egypt so we plan to produce products that suit the taste and preferences of people in egypt.
We plan to bring a totally new experience to the Egypt market as we are the first industry who bring in this 'Go Green' concept so we hope that this will be a great success no matter in terms of profit and also to bring a better and healthier life to Egypt.
Parkson Holdings Bhd, our strategic partner and host for our entrepreneurship assignment.

Groupmates visiting Parkson and took a picture for the memorial :)

Parkson has won many awards due to their effective and successful managerial system and one of the award they have won is the certificate of  accreditation on 2008/2009 due to their quality merchandising, courteous services and their store presentation.

Firstly, we pay our visit to the bag departmental store as we thought of making handbags as one of our options for our green product.

Recycle bags that we found placing at the bag departmental store.

Then, some accessories similar to the culture of Egypt caught our attention. We decided to put accessories in our second option so that we can have more choices and ideas on what to do.

The accessories that are suitable to be our reference for our product.

Next, we have an idea when we saw this creative lamps in the household department in Parkson.
We decided to use decorative lamps as our last option for our green products.
The household department.

Decorative lamps.

So we go and look for more lamps so that we can come out we some innovative ideas.

We are doing some researches on the lamps.

So that's the end of the day after we had our outings searching for ideas.
Next post will be how we get into the idea of our green product.
Stay tuned!

Group Assignment for Entrepreneurship

We are assigned for the entrepreneurship assignment to create a new 'green' business with Parkson Holdings as our host to expand their company's market share by penetrating into the Middle East market.
We are allocated to create a business plan as well as our green product in terms of profit and also beneficial to overcome the obligations through our go green project.

Firstly, the country we have chosen is Egypt, which is the northern side of africa in middle east.

Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa and the Middle East. The great majority of its estimated 78.7 million live near the banks of the Nile River, in an area of about 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 sq mi),where the only arable agricultural land is found.

The large areas of the Sahara Desert are sparsely inhabited.

About half of Egypt's residents live in urban areas, with most spread across the densely populated centres of greater CairoAlexandria and other major cities in the Nile Delta.

Egypt has been suffering from serious environmental problems which urge the need for going green.

Life in modern Egypt is a study in contrasts, especially in Cairo, where the constant blasting of the car horns and the loudspeakers of its thousand minarets proclaim both the hectic present and the contemplative past.

Modern skyscrapers, highways, a subway system, hotels, restaurants, advertising and western clothing blend together with ancient pharaonic ruins, Islamic mosques, Coptic churches, Middle Eastern garb, bazaars and the odor of cattle in a unique mosaic of life in modern Egypt. I once witnessed a huge caravan of farmers, donkeys and camels making a right turn on a principal Egypt avenue.

Egyptian consumers' demand for green products forces manufacturers and legislation to prepare for environmental regulations. The aim of this assignment is to go green in Egypt and to overcome some environmental problems and obstacles that may hinder going green in Egypt.

Then, we come into group discussion to figure out what product should we produce to fit the modern lifestyle of Egypt. For more information on our product, stay tuned! :)
